Weekend Round Up

Having lost their opening game since lockdown last week to Hersham the 1st Team returned to action visiting University of Surrey on Saturday whilst the Development Team visited West Byfleet in their Covid Subsidiary Cup group game 1. The two teams combined 12 players who have played in the Youth team in the last 3 seasons with Youth Team Captain William Smith travelling with the 1st team squad whilst Louis Calvert travelled with the Devs.

A strong performance from the 1st team was hanging by a thread when with the scores at 0-0 and with a number of very good chances having gone begging Youth Team Skipper, Smith, was dismissed 20 minutes into the second half after just two tackles! A harsh red card in our minds but nether the less the Lemons were up for the fight and with a man less Matt Elmer's saved shot was rifled home by 1st team debutant Louie Bombourg. With their hosts trying desperately to find an equaliser the visitors scored the decisive goal as a miss placed pass form the hosts midfielder found Carl Willis stepping onto the ball some 40 yards out, his first time hit curled high over the goalkeeper and put the game out of sight with just 5 minutes to go.

The development team visited West Byfleet and Kalim Hussain put the visitors ahead, Ryan Porter then added a second after the hosts had hit back, Porter firing a shot across the goalkeeper to make the score 2-1. Louis Calvert on Senior debut then added a third, having caused the opposition all sorts of problems he was played through before brilliantly lifting the ball over the goalkeeper to make the score 3-1.

Sunday saw the return of the Juniors with Coopers Hill looking exceptionally good in the early morning sunshine.

The Under 18's visited Claygate winning 3-1, goals from Alex Harden, Alfie Draycott Fry and Louie McLaughlin in what was a very comfortable and confident performance. The under 16's lost 2-1 away at Teddington in a slightly contentious game. The under 15's Girls lost 2-1 at Home to Alton with the under 14's also on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat away at Bookham. The under 13's Boys won 3-2 away at Alexandra United whilst the 13's Girls lost 4-1 away to Guildford Saints. The under 12's Spitfires lost away to Windlesham whilst the Hurrcianes lost at home to Staines Lammas. The under 11's girls had a disappointing trip away from home whilst the 11's Hurricanes enjoyed the sunshine at Coopers Hill. There were plenty of goals, cheers and smiles in all the younger age groups as football finally returned.

The Youth Team return to competitive action on Thursday night in the Tony Ford League Cup as they play Raynes Park at Colliers Wood.
